Great news for those who want to use IPv6 in the cloud, Azure now has IPv6. The announcement came today on Microsoft’s Azure Blog at, https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-networking-announcements-for-ignite-2016/. Native IPv6 is now available for both Windows and Linux VMs.
Microsoft Azure is the second largest public cloud computing service after Amazon Web Services. Whilst Amazon has had support for IPv6 on its elastic load balancer and more recently its S3 storage platform, AWS does not yet support native IPv6 on VMs.
There remain a number of major cloud provides who still do not support IPv6. This includes Google’s cloud compute platform. We expect that Azure’s native IPv6 support will spur other suppliers to enable their services in the near future.
